Welcome to the Micheldever School Development Trust
This site has been designed to keep you up to date with MSDT's activities and progress.
Thanks to the unbelievable generosity and enthusiasm of local residents, and the support of numerous trusts and organisations, and the help of PFA members and others in organising events and fund-raising activities, the Trust has achieved its initial goal of raising £75,000 to support the refurbishment and rebuilding of Micheldever's historic Victorian primary school.
Micheldever Church of England Primary School, with its traditional Victorian school hall and impressive clock tower, has provided a central focus to the village of Micheldever for over one hundred years. The school provides high quality infant and primary education to some eighty children from a broad swathe of Hampshire between Winchester and Basingstoke, including Micheldever, Micheldever Station, East Stratton, Woodmancote, Popham and Stoke Charity.
The school's historical listed building has not, however, kept pace with an expanding school roll and the needs of modern education. The majority of the teaching takes place in four classrooms, hidden from view behind the main building. The first two of these 'temporary' prefab classrooms were installed just over fifty years ago with the second pair being added in the 1980s. They were intended to last for some five to ten years! Inevitably they are now in very poor condition, and Hampshire Local Education Authority has agreed to fund their replacement. The LEA has also included in their plans a new school hall, which would resolve a long standing problem of the lack of space or facilities for Physical Education.
In order to make this dream a reality, however, the school undertook to raise a contribution of £50,000 towards the building costs. The school will also need additional funds to equip the new buildings to create the modern learning environment that the children deserve, and to make the most of the huge investment.
In response to this challenge, we established the Micheldever School Development Trust. Working closely with the Governors and the PFA, MSDT raised over £75,000 for the school in 18 months, through a combination of gifts from individuals and local organisations, grants, corporate giving and fund-raising events.
The new build programme is now well under way. In the summer of 2007, the new buildings will be complete, and the school will be able to make full use of the new hall and other facilities that MSDT helped to fund.
This site is intended to give you full details of our plans and achievements, and to keep you informed of upcoming events and challenges.
