We Made it!

Thanks to the unbelievable generosity and enthusiasm of local residents, and the support of numerous trusts and organisations, and the help of PFA members and others in organising events and fund-raising activities, we are very pleased to be able to announce that MSDT has reached its funding target of £75,000.

Following this success, we have agreed with the PFA that that they will take back control of future fund-raising in the village, in support of the ongoing day to day activities in the school. The Trust will focus its efforts on longer term aims and aspirations of the school, and will target funding sources from beyond the immediate area around the school, such as national funding organisations and large companies.

Trustee Update

The MSDT Trust Deed requires that the majority of the initial Trustees were re-apponted after one year (an exception was made for the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, to ensure continuity).

At the Trustees' Meeting held in March 2006, two of our trustees, Ian Shore and Andrew Tollyfield, took the opportunity to step down, after a year of hard work in support of the Trust.  The Trustees would like to thank Ian and Andrew for their hard work over the last year, and the important role they have played in raising over £70,000 for the school. The other trustees were re-appointed for a period of two years.

It was agreed at the meeting that the school Head Teacher should be invited to serve as a Trustee for the period of his/her service in the school. Brain Saunders has therefore been formally invited to join the Trustees; his appointment will be confirmed at the next Trustees' Meeting. An updated list of trustees can be seen here.

Trust passes £65,000!

When we started fund-raising for the new school buildings back in March, our target of £75,000 was a daunting challenge and we weren't completely sure of how, or even whether, we would reach it. Now, just nine months later, the balance in the Trust's bank account stands at £62,727 and with gift aid and promised funds equalling around another £7,000 we are now approaching our final figure.

We are delighted to find ourselves in this position. The money has come in from many sources, including contributions from charitable trusts, a grant from the parish council, donations by the church and local organisations and money raised in local events. The largest contribution however, has come from donations by local people.

Our thanks go out to all of you who have supported us.

Planning Milestone Passed

The plans for the new building were submitted for planning consent in December 2005, opening the way for detailed planing for the build. Hampshire County Council are aiming to do some demolition and site clearance in the Easter school holidays and start the building in July. When the work is complete we will have a marvellous new school, and a hall that will be a tremendous asset to both the school and the rest of the community.

Details of the planning application can be seen here.

We are very pleased to announce that at their monthly meeting last night, Micheldever Parish Council approved a Grant of £5,000 to the MSDT. The Council, unanimously supporting our request for funds, recognised that the new School, and particularly the facilities offered to the community by the new hall, will be a great asset to the village.

Our particular thanks go to Fiona Watton and Belinda Hughes and to all those who generously donated promises to be auctioned.

£2000 for MSDT from the Village Fete

The Micheldever Church Fete is held every year with the proceeds going to St Mary's Church.  This year we were very pleased that the PCC agreed that half of the takings at the fete would be donated to the MSDT.

The Trust's stall at the fete featured a newly constructed model of the planned school buildings, along with the latest drawings. Trustees were on hand to talk to visitors about the project and to answer their questions.   "Find the Treasure" and "Drop the 5p on the £50" games and a children's colouring competition made sure that we had a lively afternoon.

There was a lot of interest in the project and many supportive suggestions and messages, underlining the way the whole community has swung behind our fundraising efforts.

This morning (19 July) the Trust was presented with a cheque for £2,000 by Gill Dockray, with Meridian Television on hand to record the event.

Fashion Show Success!

Our Musical Extravaganza, held in the Northbrook Hall on 24 and 25 June
 was a huge success,
raising over £2000 for the Trust.

Micheldever's village hall was transformed into a glittering venue for a Musical Fashion Extravaganza.  Fifteen fashion retailers (big name stores, individual boutiques, and designers) generously provided their latest styles to be modeled. This was no ordinary fashion show.

Lisa Shore, a former professional dancer in London's west end, choreographed separate dance sequences,  to songs from the shows, for each range of clothing.  Then she patiently guided a host of volunteer models through hours of rehearsal time to produce a stunning show.  Over 30 children from the school took part, from Reception to year 6. All learned complex dance routines and performed them with evident pride and enjoyment.

Many displayed an aptitude for dance and showmanship that will only have been enhanced by this experience. The many adults who also took part also had great fun, even those dads who had been 'volunteered' as models and initially had little idea what they were letting themselves in for; in the end they too were sashaying down the catwalk like true pros.  With songs including Grease Lightning, Night Fever, Bangkok, Oh What a Circus, and a very cheeky number called 'The Tennis Song', the mood was at turns elegant, energetic, seductive and humerous.

A successful show on this scale depends upon the hard work of many.  In addition to Lisa, all her assistants, the comperes, and the models, our thanks go to Phil of Hammer House and Jason for stage and sets; Sam Dean for the sound.

Special thanks are due to the retailers themselves, without whose support it would not have been possible. Soho Tanning, Calcutt and Sons, Diva Designs, Truth or Dare, Naf Naf, QS, Stinky Fish, George, Crew Clothing, Mothercare, Wild Sports, Pumpkin Patch, Debut, BHS, Girls Girls Girls and Jigsaw provided clothes and support and special offers to the event and their support to the Trust is very much appreciated.

And thanks, of course, to all those who came and saw the show. Your ongoing support for the Trust and the School is playing a crucial part in making the Trust a success and the new school a reality.
